A team of researchers from the University of Glasgow has improved the quality of swallowed video cameras designed to detect cancer of the throat and intestines. The quality of the shooting and the display of organs has improved significantly, thanks to a special fluorescent backlighting.

The technology of swallowable capsules filled with electronics is not new. Specialists from Glasgow reworked it and added fluorescent light. With the help of special semiconductor imaging devices, “wedged” into a tiny tablet, physicians were able to carefully examine the gastrointestinal tract for 14 hours.

In particular, special lighting helps to better identify spotting, characteristic of growing malignant tumors – when examined with ordinary light, it is easy not to notice them. Preliminary testing gave excellent results. Now the team of researchers intends to continue working, adding to their invention of additional technologies to improve the efficiency of the device.
